Gretna Green Collaboration
In 2019, I worked alongside my classmates to create an exhibition of historical wedding dresses for Gretna Green, spanning from 1580-1950.
I was asked to create a dress inspired by the 1890s. I have used a historical silhouette focusing on the increasing use of men's tailoring in womenswear. I applied my own textiles, making use of smocking, foil and antique mother of pearl buttons given to me by my grandmother. I wanted to create a dramatic silhouette making use of the gigot sleeves that were fashionable at the time. I added sweeping, pointed lapels to the bodice to add drama.
